2、Abstract Shyness is what one feels nervous and uncomfortable in social intercourse situation,a kind of fear to negative evaluate. It also goes with depression or restrain. Shyness dramatically affects one’s participating

3、 in his or her expected actions. In some situations,appropriate shyness is a normal response. But if the degree of shyness is high, it affects one’s life, work and causes different social adaptation,psychological questi

4、ons. Junior school students in the adolescence are experiencing huge physiological and psychological change, with the rapid development of sex psychology and self-consciousness,they began to pay too much attention to sel

5、f - image and evaluation of others,this is easy to cause shyness in daily life and study. The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of junior school students’ shyness, to explore the correlationship

6、among shyness, attachment style and defense mechanism and to analyze the characteristics of high-shyness junior school students, then to improve students’ shyness by group counseling,based on the past experiences of shyn

7、ess intervention. In this study, we use Shyness Scale, Attachment Style Scale and the Defense Style Questionnaire to study 631 junior school students in Shanghai. The conclusions of this study are as follows: (1) Junior

8、 school students’ shyness has no significant difference in gender, only child and non-only child. Students’ shyness has significant difference in grade,class leader or Non-class cadres,academic achievement. Grade has an

9、influence on junior school students’ shyness,students’ shyness in grade 1 is higher than grade 2. Non-student cadres are shier than student leaders. Students with self-rated poor achievements are shier than students with

10、 self-rated moderate and outstanding achievements. (2)Attachment style and defense mechanism are the important factors influencing the shyness. Security attachment students’ shyness is significantly lower than the insecu

11、rity attachment children. High-shyness students use immature defense mechanism and intermediate defense mechanisms more than the low-shyness. (3)Group counseling activities designed in this study can significantly reduce
